Hi all! Alicia and I hope your end of year is going extremely well, and that those of you who made the decision to fly Southwest this month have as comfortable a spot on the airport floor as possible.
As we gear up for the second season of the 90 Miles from Needles podcast, I wanted to let you know that we’re having a benefit reading of my essay “Forsaken,” which covers a few themes longtime readers of my work will find familiar. Topics include my history, general underestimation of the desert’s importance, and the ecological impact of one particular solar project, all woven together in a way that hopefully makes sense.
The reading will take place January 4, 2023, at 6 pm Pacific. It will be online as a Facebook Live event. You can sign up for it here. Admission will be $6.99 per person, all of which will go to support the podcast.
We know a lot of folks are asking for money at the end of the year, and if you’re seriously tapped out we can make arrangements. The catch is that you have to go to our Facebook Page and “like” it. (We didn’t come up with that idea; it’s how the events system over there works.) Once you’re on the list of page likers, we can let you in.
I honestly think “Forsaken” is one of the most important things I’ve ever written. This is a chance to get a glimpse into the work before it’s completely fine-tuned. Plus you help the 90 Miles from Needles podcast.
Happy New Year and we hope to see you on January 4!
