90 Miles from Needles News!
A couple of new episodes since last we wrote, with links below. But first!
One of those episodes includes some requests for help of various kinds, both monetary and non-monetary. We are raising funds to hire freelance reporters to provide us with more stories from across the desert; you can contribute to that fund here. There are also less financial ways to support us, such as by going to your favorite podcast app, finding 90 Miles from Needles, and leaving a review. Here’s an example from just the other day:
We’ve become acutely aware of the fact that we’re heavy on the bad news. We are coping with this realization by making sure to focus on the many things that make desert activism both sustainable and worth doing. And we could use your help. What makes you keep plugging away? How do you keep yourself going? We certainly get enough bad news in a day to bludgeon a platoon of Pollyannas into submission. How do you keep on keeping on? Leave a voicemail at (760) 392-1996 if you want to give us some audio to use in the podcast. You can also email us, but we might decide to have our robot announcer read your email, and honestly we’d rather hear you than him.
There is no item 3.
New episodes:
S1E13: Don't Die Today: Heat in the Desert
Chris enjoys the desert at its hottest. Alicia, on the other hand, is closer to sanity. Both of them treat desert heat with respect. We talk about how to make sure your time in the desert doesn't end in tragedy. The desert needs its defenders alive!
S1E14 The Bean Trees! But first, please help us
There's good news: the desert offers sweet sustenance that can be had for a little bit of work. And we mean actual food, not that metaphorical well-being stuff. Though that's here too.
But first, Chris offers some thoughts on how to help 90 Miles from Needles get to more people, and Alicia recuperates from an unfortunate but temporary rambunctious-dog-related injury. (She is getting better.)
Also, don’t forget: our Patreon supporters get to listen to these episodes a week earlier than other folks, and they also have access to perks like the upcoming 90MFN Patreon Party/campout at Joshua Tree NP, the weekend of September 11. You can check out our Patreon page here. If you don’t like Patreon, or want to make a one-time donation to our freelancers’ fund, hit our Ko-Fi pot here.
Thanks, and stay hydrated!
